REKA

Description

REKA is an atmospheric third-person exploration and house-building game, set in rural Europe of the late 19th century. Play as the herb witch Reka and travel the countryside in your cottage with chicken legs. Collect ingredients, produce medicine and magical goods to aid local villagers and expand your home and make it truly yours by filling it with crafting stations, furniture and decorative elements. While exploring you will stumble across special sites, where you will be faced with different challenges. Master these and you will earn rewards that could help you progress in the game or serve as a memento which can be used to decorate your home.

My Contribution

  • Programming For this project I did a lot of programming and work in Unity. Next to many other systems and behaviors I was responsible for crafting, the inventory, UI management, interaction management ("press E to interact"), a system to balance quest difficulty, a system to decide which quests and collectible spawn on a map, a minigame interaction to heal NPCs and many more. I also dealt with the technical side and setup of all UIs, including those which appear as 3D interfaces in the game world. Later on I implemented art for the UIs together with the artists.
  • Game System Design I co-created the game's core loop. To shape the creative vision I prototyped a lot of different mechanics in the earlier stages of the project and iterated on the promising ones. I was responsible for the player's journal, a book-style UI where all the needed information is stored. I worked on what information is needed and to what extent it needs to be displayed. Another thing I spent much time on was the design of a minigame interaction to heal NPCs. Regarding game design I otherwise helped out everywhere a little, consulting, testing and giving feedback.
